His family was relocated from Fort Mitchell, Alabama to Indian Territory on the Trail of Tears and they settled just west Okmulgee. Due to his leadership during the twelve years as chief, the Creek people underwent many moral and administrative changes. He was very revered in the Creek people even after his death in his Okmulgee home in 1884. The school was named in his honor. I would have taken more pics of the outside, but it was very overgrown with trees, so you really couldnt see the structure, which is a shame. And really, if you didnt know it was there, you can drive right by it and not even see it. I only like overgrown vegitation if its like vines or something that adds to the character to the building, in this case it just hindered my photos. Just another reason why I cant wait until winter hits and all this pesky green stuff dies off. Yeah, pic #39 is my favorite too.
