I came across some information on the old IOOF orphanage at Carmen that says it's abandoned. I did find some info on a "ghost hunters" page from 2004

The Carmen Home (IOOF Home for Children) was opened in 1907 and was empty for 10 to 12 years when it became the private residence of Jim and Naomi Davis from 1940 to late 1940s. After that the Pentecostal Holiness Church purchased it around 1944 and made it into the Carmen Home for Elderly in 1954. The top two floors were lost in tornadoes that often sweep through Oklahoma. It is rumored to be haunted.

Anybody in the Enid area ever check it out? I'm curious if anything still remains. Carmen in northwest of Enid. Anybody out there ever checked it out or have any info?

Ya know, I looked into this a while ago. I can't quite remember what I found out about it's current condition, but I THINK it is vacant.

Thanks. I plan on being over by Enid in a month or so. I'll try and check it out and see if there's anything worth shooting. Ah, what am I saying, if I go over there, I'll shoot it anyway and torture everyone with the results.

I was thinking about it since I've got family in Enid. If you guys have documented it, that's good enough for me, I'll just anxiously wait for the post. There are some other things in the area I can check out the next time I'm up there. I just kind of got interested in it after seeing the one in Checotah.

my father and his 3 sisters were raised here(mid 1920s~mid 1930s)
when it was an operating orphanage it had several sections of land which was planted in various crops and sections to support cattle and other livestock making it almost completely self sufficient
it had a milk barn as well as it's own smoke house
as a child(i'm 55 now) we would go up to that part of the state to quail hunt(dad was a fanatical quail hunter), he still knew farmers in the area that allowed he and i to hunt on their property
we would always visit the "home" as he called it,whenever we went that direction, in the early '60s the complete 5 story building was still in operation as an orphanage but had lost most of it's self sufficiency
i got to walk the same hallways and stairs the dad did when he was my age, the door sills and stair treads were worn almost down to nothing
the upper 2 floors were falling into disrepair and became unsafe during this time frame and were closed off to most daily traffic and visitors, except "the kids", dad called anyone who spent time in the orphanage "the kids"
sometimes some of the kids would be 'loaned' out to local farmers to help out on their farms
dad used to tell a story about the headmaster being able to stand on the upper floor front porch and watch the kids walk all the way to town for school
as i recall it shut down as an orphanage in the late '60s, but later opened back up as a 'old fokes' home (as dad called it), this is when it lost the upper two stories for safety reasons
dad had kept up his visits to the home well into the late '90s for small reunions and his own trips back to his youth

we recently were granted permission to enter the ioof home in carmen. it is owned by a local resident who cares for and maintains the property. we have a lot of pictures of the inside and grounds that we are hoping will become a featured post soon.
