The bird, that is camping out , is what we call a turkey vulture. A few years ago, I visited my old homestead in Arkansas for the first time in 20 years and the house was falling down. I went up on the front porch and a large turkey vulture flew out of our front window, which was missing, and nearly knocked me down. Scared the mess out of me and I decided not to go in. I swear it had a six foot wingspan!

If the Logan County Assessor's Office has helpful records on this property, wouldn't it be simple for someone (AbandonedOK or someone else) to ascertain history on the house? To be honest, I explored the house today with nobody's permission except my wife's, and found a family Bible with a genealogy through the 1960s in the front, and an old insurance policy from 1944 for the property. When we Googled the names from the genealogy, we found that one person still lives and works in Guthrie! So what now…do we call her up?

I found numerous news papers dating until from '82 – '85. I would love to know what happened here, and until I found the newspapers I agreed on the time frame you suggested. This is such a strange place, given all the belongings still in the house.

I commute from OKC to Stillwater every weekday, and I've always wondered about this place. It just sticks out so starkly, and is frankly a bit creepy. Thanks for the photos!

From the appliances, I would say that the house was occupied maybe until the 50's or 60's. I agree with your comment about the clothes. Did they leave in such a hurry that they didn't pack? Old clothes that are left to the elements rot away pretty quickly. I am surprised at the fairly decent condition of the clothes. It seems that insects have not bothered them either.

There used to be an old Catholic School in or around Guthrie or maybe towards Edmond maybe in the 1950's Kids were boarded there. Do you have any information on that?

I want to also say thank you for going to all of these interesting places and taking pictures. I've often times seen old houses or buildings and wondered, 'What's in there?' 'What history could be found?' 'Who owned it and what happend there?' I know we can't get answers to all of those questions, I appreciate the pictures and the answers you do get. In looking at the pictures on this house its amazing to see the clothes still hanging in the closet. I wonder what era they are from? Do you guys ever try to salvage some of the things left behind to give to a charity or museum? I wish I could be adventurous and tour old abandoned places, but with my bad knees and health problems, I imagine that will never happen. Thank you for letting us live vicariously through you.

I pass this house all the time. What about the farmhouse across the street? That place looks creepy. I wanna check the house also north of the Guthire homestead. ( north of the pizza hut and Sleep Inn)

This is the house you can see from I35? I always wanted to get a look at the inside! Also, I would like ot give a huge, gigantic THANKS to the author of this website! I've been to many of the locations on this site, as well as quite a few more. I've been waiting for years for a site like this and I'm so thankful there is someone else out there interested in documenting Oklahoma's history in this manner! THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
